Innovative New Adventure Travel, Puts Vacationing Families on the Hunt for Treasure

When all is said and done…all we have left are our memories

(PRWEB) July 21, 2011

In a time of video game obsessions and monosyllabic family conversations, a Colorado based company, Scurvy Dogs Custom Treasure Hunts & Adventures, has come up with a fun and entertaining way for families to bond. Scurvy Dogs offers families custom treasure hunts to conduct at home or on vacation. These interactive adventures lead families on quests, following clues to uncover a fitting treasure.

“Having fun as a group and working together towards a successful conclusion is what positive teamwork is all about”, reports Scurvy Dogs founder Bill Sauvigne’. is not only a fun activity for the whole family to participate in together; it sets the stage for future problem solving, non-violent competition and working with others.

As a teacher, Sauvigne’ found children were becoming isolated from those around them and interacting mainly with computer monitor, and after a phone call from his nephew, he created the concept to re-live his own childhood of imaginative games and play.

“It’s not altogether surprising,” offers the 52 year old, “that the people that get into the hunts the most are not just the kids…….but the parents as well”. “In Fact,” he adds,”we’ve had a number of corporations approach us about running team building exercises, and chambers of commerce interested in creating a “buzz” for their downtown areas.”

Scurvy Dogs works with each family to design a custom “hunt” tailored to their interest and incorporating individual family information. Two weeks prior to the adventure, Scurvy Dogs send a series of clever themed mailings and logo materials to hype interest. During the actual hunt, the team from Scurvy Dogs comes in and sets clues, adding color with actors and staged meetings. One of the many options offered by Scurvy Dogs is to video or photograph the hunt for a bound memory book or DVD of the adventure. The culmination of the hunt is the discovery of the missing treasure-a booty shared by all.

“We’ve done a hunt on Block Island for the past 11 years,” satisfied customer Leslie Bruzik of CT reports. “Even though the kids are older now, we still do one each year because it’s so much fun and so much of our Block Island vacation memories. Bruzik adds “ is a great way to add a unique activity to a vacation or reunion without paying a fortune. It’s good clean fun and even the surliest teenagers will have the time of their lives!”

Scurvy Dogs Custom Treasure Hunts & Adventures was created in 2000 by Bill Sauvigne’ and is based in Del Norte, Colorado. For More information on Scurvy Dogs and the adventure travel treasure hunts they conduct, please visit or contact bill directly at findpiratetreasure(at)yahoo(dot)com
