Q&A: Cesar Millan or Victoria Stilwell?

Question by : Cesar Millan or Victoria Stilwell?
Hi, I have a question about these two “dog behaviorists”. Some people say Cesar is better and others think Victoria is better because she uses positive reinforcement. I am 13 and I have 2 dogs. Which way would be better to train them? Victoria’s way or Cesars way? I’m really confused because I was doing it Cesars way and now everone is saying it’s inhumane.
So I was thinking about doing it Victoria’s way and I think her way would work with my Border Collie mix but NO WAY with my bigger more stubborn dog. And when I say stubborn, I don’t think there has EVER been a more stubborn dog in the world. Anyway, I just wanted opinions!
I know Cesar doesn’t use the positive reinforcement and treats and stuff but I don’t necessarily believe that his techniques are inhumane, he just has a different way of getting them done…(=

Opinions please!! Thanks in advance!! :) I like how almost everyone on Yahoo Answers is so helpful, so I just thought this would be a good place to get some info. :) I plan on being a REALLY good dog behaviorist when I’m older…or a vet :)
LOL…thanks for the comparison…I guess you’re right. I think I’ll use Victoria Stilwell’s training for my Border Collie mix and Cesar Millans for my Great Dane mix…THANKS!!
Thanks a lot jtexas!! I agree that when Cesar has to get rough with them, he will. I also believe that Victoria is an OK trainer as far as trainers go.
I also know that Cesar is a behaviorist and not a trainer…(I have all his books)
He helps problem dogs with severe problems and I like that…(=
Considering he saved many dogs from euthanization, I would say he’s not so bad. All the dogs at his center seem very happy and content and if they don’t mind him, then neither do I.
THANKS EVERYBODY FOR YOUR OPINIONS!!
@ Clockwork_Knight…YES!! I do believe strangling is VERY cruel! I never said I would do that to my dogs! I do not strangle them at all!! I just said that some of his methods work and I would never use a CRUEL method.
I don’t believe in abusing a dog to gt them to do what we want them to do. But some of his methods DO work…=)

They are both good and both have different training techniques so you really can’t compare the two. It would be like comparing apples and tomatoes.

Q&A: Is it just me, or are my neighbors mean?

Question by : Is it just me, or are my neighbors mean?
I walk my dog all around my neighborhood. First, I walk him around my house a couple times, hoping he will do his business. Then we walk. Sometimes, sh*t happens, but I always pick up after him. So this morning, I had already taken him out and he pooped in my yard. (I even pick it up immediately if he goes in our yard.) He wanted to go out again later to walk. I took him across the street, and he was just sniffing around at the corner. So this b*tch stands at her door and says, “You know we have a pickup law?” I said “Yes, he is not doing his business, we are just walking.” She said, “You know we have a pickup law. Oh, well I saw. Do you have plastic bags?” WTF! So I pulled out my bags and showed her, said, “Yes, I am aware of that, but he did not do his business.” And brought him home. And cried. This is not the first time someone in this neighborhood has done this to me, either. I did nothing wrong. This is a little “nicer” neighborhood than where we previously lived, so I think maybe this is why the neighbors are so rude. I am seriously considering moving to our old neighborhood. I miss the junkies knocking on our door in the middle of the night because they got the wrong house. At least they were nice. Any thoughts? Stop walking my dog? Move? What should I do?
Sorry, I should have mentioned I already wanted to move before this incident, but that would be another story. Most people in this neighborhood don’t walk their dogs, and now I understand why. So I am considering putting in a fence so I don’t have to walk my dog anymore. Yes, I know I should not have cried. I have a lot more issues than just this.

Isn’t the term “K9 Dog” redundant?

Question by K9: Isn’t the term “K9 Dog” redundant?
Perhaps abbreviating the word canine to “K9” started in the military so why add the word “dog” to the end? Wouldn’t that be like saying “human homo sapien”?
So, all of us in the dog training business are incorrect when we refer to our pupils as “K9s” – what I thought was a simple abbreviation for canine? Is the proper use only for an enforcement team – the K9 handler and the K9 dog?

Technically, no. It is originally meant to be spelled “canine” rather than “K9,” because humans have canine teeth (you know the sharp teeth, the ones that turn into fangs in vampire-lore, and also in the front of your mouth). I don’t know why they decided to name the dog a canine, but maybe it was because their canine teeth are extremely prominent and are exposed when said dog is threatened.

Other animals have canine teeth also, like the domesticated cat, lions, tigers, and basically any predatory quadruped has them.

Anyway, I digress. Canine originated as a type of tooth, but went on to be synonymous with dog.

► Minecraft: Kingdom of the Sky: Skeleton Painting: #6 — Story — You are about to leave your house early one morning when a stranger summons you pleading for your help. A great evil has befallen his homeland. You are called upon, you must free him and save the Kingdom of the Sky. — Extra Information — Kingdom of the Sky is an Adventure map designed for one or two people. What makes this different from many of the other maps is it actually has Voice over dialog to provide the story elements! It is the first map to ever use Youtube videos to provide the narration. This is accomplished by playing videos on Youtube when certain checkpoints are reached in the game. Instead of stopping the game to read a long text file the player will simply Alt-Tab to his/her browser and play the video to listen to the audio for the storyline! What’s even better than that is as soon as the video starts playing, the player can continue playing the map while the dialog plays in the background.
