Does anyone know of a good book about dog training?

Question by : Does anyone know of a good book about dog training?
I am planning on getting a dog, but I’ve never had one before and I don’t know the first thing about training. I want to train it so it doesn’t end up like my cousin’s dog who jumps all over people and barks at everything. I want my dog to be my buddy so please hook me up with some sort of books to give me the basics of training my new dog right.

Q&A: Why are shelters so over run by homeless animals?

Question by Santa Baby: Why are shelters so over run by homeless animals?
Why do they make it so difficult to adopt? I got an application and you have to have a job so you can financially support your pet but then you don’t have enough time to spend with it because you work. This pet needs a home with other animals but then you might be a hoarder if you already have a few. Your vet has to account for every pet you’ve owned in the past 10 years and if 1 died, you might have harmed it so, no, you can’t adopt. And then there’s “this isn’t the right pet for you but when we get one you’re compatible with, we’ll be in touch”. I understand they want good homes for them but it gets ridiculous sometimes. It seems like regular people don’t have a chance. Wouldn’t they be better off with a regular family than locked in a cage for a year or more sometimes?

Its also true that they do be going to far! i had gave up my 6 mo. old dog because she wasnt getting along with her brother, and they euthanized her because she was SCARED! duh she was going to be scared its a new place!…ugh i was crying the whole day! =[

How do I become a good dog trainer?

Question by Princess Luna Was Here: How do I become a good dog trainer?
I want to be able to get a breed without crossing it off the list just because it’s “hard to train”. What are your opinions on Cesar Millan’s methods? Do they work? Have you owned a “stubborn” breed of dog before (ex: Husky) and have you gone about training it? How long did it take you? I know you have to be consistant with the training and all that but some dogs ARE easier to train than others to an extent. So, how do I be an expert dog trainer?

Its just a matter of the effort you put into it and time…Watch lots of dog behaviour problems and their solutions…Watch alot of dog documentories…I prefer a german shepherd because its very easy to train for me.
