Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 24, 2012

Pit bull celebrity dogs Hector and Wallace, along with their adopter Andrew “Roo” Yori, are making their first appearance in Southern California to celebrate National Pit Bull Awareness Day with a book signing and cocktail reception October 30th from 6-8pm at Healthy Spot in Marina Del Rey.

Both dogs have milestones to celebrate this year. Wallace is the subject of a new book, authored by Jim Gorant, which chronicles his heroic journey from unwanted shelter dog to a flying disc national champion. Hector, who was lucky enough to survive Michael Vick’s infamous Bad Newz Kennels, is marking the five year anniversary of his release to rescue.

Hector, who was featured in Gorant’s previous award winning book The Lost Dogs, has earned both a Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog certification. Wallace and Hector, along with adopter Yori, are on a mission to change the often negative stereotypes of pit bull type dogs.

The first five attendees at the reception will receive a free copy of the new book Wallace: The Underdog Who Conquered a Sport, Saved a Marriage, and Championed Pit Bulls–One Flying Disc at a Time autographed by Yori. Additional books will be available for sale and autographs, while supplies last.

The celebration is sponsored by Found Animals Foundation and Angel City Pit Bulls and generously hosted by Healthy Spot.

Healthy Spot is located at 4718 Lincoln Blvd. Marina Del Rey, CA 90292.

Interview and broadcast opportunities will be available.

For detailed information about the cocktail reception and book-signing event, contact Teresa Buyikian at (213) 925-8188. Attendees may RSVP to this event on Facebook.

Yorktown Heights, NY (PRWEB) March 5, 2007

Guiding Eyes for the Blind is pleased to welcome New York Giant quarterback Eli Manning as the new host of the 30th Annual Guiding Eyes for the Blind Golf Classic.

The Classic, started 30 years ago as a way to help fund Guiding Eyes’ services to the blind and visually impaired, will be held on Monday, June 25, 2007 at both the Whippoorwill Club in Armonk, New York and Mount Kisco Country Club in Mount Kisco.

“I am honored to host the 30th Annual Guiding Eyes for the Blind Golf Classic,” Manning said. “I feel a special closeness to this event as my family and the family of one of the blind golfers, Pat Browne, Jr., have been friends for many years. Now, being part of the Classic will allow me to become even more aware of the very worthwhile things this organization accomplishes.”

Mr. Manning will take over as host of the Golf classic from Ken Venturi, who devoted 27 years to supporting the event and Guiding Eyes. Mr. Venturi remains as Honorary Chairman of the Classic.

On Monday, June 25, the Classic will be played at both Mount Kisco Country Club, Mount Kisco, NY and Whippoorwill Club, Armonk, NY. Participants play 18 holes of golf with an opportunity to play a few holes with blind golfers and will also have the opportunity to meet Eli Manning. On Sunday, June 24, sixteen of the top blind golfers from the United States Blind Golf Association in the U.S. and Canada compete against one another at Mount Kisco Country Club for the coveted Corcoran Cup.

The Classic is the largest fundraiser for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, one of the leading guide dog training schools in the country, and has raised over $ 6 million for this non-profit organization located in Yorktown Heights, NY. Guiding Eyes, having just celebrated its 50th year in 2006, is a 501 (c) non-profit organization which relies solely on the outstanding generosity of individuals, corporations, foundations, civic groups, and their two major annual fundraisers, the Golf Classic and the New Leash on Life Walkathon, October 7, 2007.
